Wim werkt momenteel aan het onderzoeksproject 'Kinderen van de kolonie. Een oral history van de doorwerking van het industriële verleden in Oost-Groningen en Zuid-Limburg'. Verder is hij geïnteresseerd in democratie, burgerschap, regionalisme, urban studies, elites en sociale bewegingen, politiegeschiedenis en oral history.
